Saab Key Programming
Saab cars built since 1994 use an immobilizer that relies on a set of keys. A new transponder is required for the inclusion of an additional key, and special programming. This is usually done by the dealer using the Tech2 diagnostic tool.
The problem is that this can be very costly. This is why you should always have a spare key available.
Transponder key

The next step is to connect the wires for the column and row to the microcontroller. This is the most difficult part of the project and requires a significant amount of soldering. It's not a standard way to go about it, but you need to consider how you will route and connect each column and row. For this keyboard, there are 5 rows and 17 columns. This means there will be 22 microcontroller wires and pins to connect.

Once the rows and columns are soldered, it's time to connect them to key switches. Solder a diode to each key switch pin. This will shield the pins from current, and prevent them from getting shorted. A diode only allows the flow of current to be in one direction, and it comes with a the black band as a visual indicator that indicates the direction current will flow.

The tools plug into the OBD port and automatically guide the user through the process, making it easier than replacing the computer in the vehicle.
Jump-starting the battery
A majority of people keep an assortment of tools in their trunks to jump start a vehicle in an emergency, but it might not be the best idea for cars with more modern technology. These cars have a variety of digital and computer systems that communicate with each other. A surge in voltage when a battery is hooked up to another battery could fry these components, rendering your vehicle unable to drive.
Start the vehicle that is working and allow it to run for around two minutes before connecting the cables to the battery that is not working. Attach the red clip to the positive terminal of the battery that is good. (It will say "POS" or "+".) Attach the other end of the black cable to an unpainted, clean metal surface underneath the disabled car's hood. The engine block would be a good option. Do not connect the black cable to the negative terminal of the dead battery because this could cause a spark that ignites the gasoline in the engine bay.

Replacement Case
Saab owners usually have only one car key, and if that is lost, they will be charged. The reason for this is that it's not inexpensive to add a new key, and that involves replacing the CIM (Column Integration Module) or TWICE on older models, plus programming. It is best to have a backup key in the event of theft or any other catastrophe and the best option is to purchase a second key as soon as you can. Don't purchase a used key even it's "new." Keys that are claimed to be new from aftermarket sellers will not work and are almost guaranteed to fail in the crucial moment.
The majority of locksmiths won't be able to help when you only have one working key and the dealer will charge high prices to replace the computer in your car for a replacement.
